Technical Careers are (still) in demand, and the Salaries Prove it

Students who graduate with technical degrees or technical certificates are typically offered the highest starting salaries compared to students holding other degrees, according to the latest New York Times Job Market (NYTJM) survey. Starting salaries can be as high as $78,000 for a graduate technical degree and $52,000 for an undergraduate technical degree, according to the survey taken of 450 hiring managers in the New York area. This starting range surpasses all other disciplines studied, including law, liberal arts and non-technical master's degrees.

If you didn't go to college after high school, there is still a chance for you to do well in the technology industry. Technology education programs love to make maximum use of the latest learning technologies. Computer studies, and electrical and electronic engineering particularly lend themselves to new forms of learning, and there are a number of degrees offered on-line and by distance learning techniques. Employers increasingly welcome these degrees as an excellent way of combining learning with experience, and making the most use of a technical education.

The economic downturn of the technology sector has flattened out, and the industry will start back up the slope in 2003, so graduates are going to be in greater demand than ever before within the next few years. Companies will need new ideas, and graduates with lots of enthusiasm and energy.

Salaries will be even more attractive as the industry competes for the best, and starting bonuses will look more and more attractive - just the time to make sure you are in the market!
