The school, formerly known as the College of Hampton Roads, was founded in 1941, and in 1982, the name was changed to Everest Institute. In 1986, National Education Centers, Inc. acquired the school in Newport News and the name was changed to National Education Center - Everest Institute Campus. The school was then acquired by Corinthian Schools, Inc. On September 1995, and the school name was changed back to Everest Institute on June 30, 1996. On January 2008, the name was changed to Everest Institute.

The Computer Office Technologies and Applications (COTA) program includes:
- Advanced word processing
- Advanced spreadsheets
- Advanced database management
- Desktop publishing
- Professional visual presentations
- Office operations
- Web development
You will learn some of the aforementioned skills through the use of the Microsoft Office suite of computer applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
